Why This Event Matters
According to a report shared by UNESCO, only 33% of researchers are women, despite the fact that 45% and 55% of women enroll in Bachelor's and Master's programs respectively, and 44% pursue PhD programs.
Additionally, it has been noted that 70% of health and social care workers are women, yet they are paid 11% less than their male counterparts.
This highlights the importance of organizing events like the International Day of Women and Girls in Science to promote the involvement of women and girls in Science and Technology fields.
Throughout history, many remarkable women have made outstanding contributions to Science and Technology, including Katherine Johnson, Ruth Benerito, Lillian Gilbreth, Edith Clarke, Rachel Carson, and many more.
