Welcome to PSU WiDS Datathon 2023
Welcome to Women in Data Science(WiDS) – Datathon organized by Prince Sultan University(PSU) in collaboration with Stanford University.
The WiDSDatathon encourages women to hone their data science skills through analytical challenges focused on social impact, bringing people together across borders to work in teams.
PSU Women in Data Science(WiDS) Conference is hosting a Datathon with winners to be announced during the annual conference on the 14th March 2023.
Aligned to this competition, WiDS PSU is offering mentoring sessions for all women interested in Data Science and keen to participate in this Datathon. These sessions will aim to introduce and apply those tools that could be used in the Datathon and will facilitate the skills of Data Science in general. PSU WiDS Conference and 2022 Datathon competition is an independent event organized by PSU WiDS Ambassadors & Co-Ambassador, Dr.Tanzila Saba & Ms Fatima Khan and Datathon team, Dr.Tanzila Saba, Dr.Souad Larabi, Ms Erum Afzal , Dr.Amerah Alghanim and Ms.Sumaira Asif. We will have the mentor Dr.Rosana de Oliveira Gomes. The event will be harmonized with the Annual Women in Data Science (WiDS) Stanford Worldwide Conference.
We will have eleven sessions from Jan -Feb 2023, one in person and the other one online follow-up session to mentor the participants and train them in the required skills. The PSU WiDS 2023 Datathon Workshops details are given below.
The Datathon starts in January and ends in February. The “winner” team will be announced on the day of the forum: March 14th. The datathon will be live on Kaggle, a virtual event suitable for beginners through experts. It will be mentored by Prof.Tanzila Saba, Dr.Souad Larabi, Dr.Rehman Khan, Ms Aisa Dawood, Dr.Sara Elteif and PSU AIDA Lab team.
This Year's Dataset and Challenge
The 6th Annual Women in Data Science (WiDS) Datathon will launch in January, in advance of the WiDS Worldwide Conference to be held on March 14th, 2023. This year’s WiDS Datathon, organized by the WiDS Worldwide team, Stanford University, Harvard University IACS, and the WiDS Datathon Committee, will address an important way to mitigate the effects of climate change with a focus on energy efficiency. The WiDS Datathon Committee is partnering with experts from many disciplines at Climate Change AI, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab), US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and MIT Critical Data.
How it works
The WiDS Datathon will run from early January to late February 2023 on Kaggle, an online community of data scientists.
Training and validation sets will be provided for model development; you will then upload your predictions for a test set to Kaggle and these will be used to determine the public leaderboard rankings and the winners of the competition.
Winners will be announced at the WiDS Worldwide Conference held in-person, and online, on March 14, 2023. Beyond the leaderboard rankings, individuals and teams will also have an opportunity to interact with our partners at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and MIT Critical Data, submitting research papers about their work to be eligible for the WiDS Datathon Excellence in Research Award. This award is supported by the WiDS Datathon Committee, the National Science Foundation Big Data Innovation Hubs and Kaggle.
