Today’s digital era has been largely defined by technological advancements, where access to technology is essential to anyone’s educational and economic success. Due to the fastest-growing technical advancement in jobs, STEM needs women.
Knowing this fact, AIDA lab under the supervision of Dr.Heba Khoshaim, Vice President of Women Campus & SDG 5 Committee leader at Prince Sultan University is pleased to celebrate the INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE on FEB 12, 2023 at 9-2 PM Riyadh Time. aligned with the United Nations General Assembly WGiS declared Day.
This Day aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 & SDGs allows us to honour women’s significant achievements in STEM and place a much-needed focus on girls entering Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers.
Have some fun with us on 12 Feb by learning about women’s accomplishments in STEM, supporting young girls to pursue their passions in STEM and educating men on their role in encouraging and mentoring women and girls in schools and the workplace to pursue their technical and scientific passions.
Aligning to SDG 5, PSU WGiS Day 2023 has been recognizing the achievements of PSU female faculty in STEM on that day. Any of your accomplishments in research, project, or product, will be accepted.
According to a report shared by UNESCO, only 33% of researchers are women, regardless of the fact 45% and 55% women students enroll for Bachelor’s and Master’s respectively and out of which 44% enroll for PhD progam.
Further, it has been clarified that 70% health and social care workers are women and even they are paid 11% less than their male counterparts.
This is the reason, why should we organize various events and activates on International Day of Women and Girls in Science to promote the involvement of women and girls in Science and Technology.
There are a number of women worldwide who are known for their ultimate contributions in the field of Science and Technology and some of them are- Katherine Johnson, Ruth Benerito, Lillian Gilbreth, Edith Clarke, Rachel Carson and many more.
